ARTIST STATEMENT Relation - Change - Growth - Rate - Direction - Progression - Digression - Interruption - Reaction - Cycle - Position - Faith. These themes are common in my work. I sometimes take objects that I see in nature and in society and use them as symbols for my own experiences. I witness events, changes, conflicts, and successes in myself and in others. They become themes in my work and I express them using abstract and minimal forms. I intend these pieces to remind a person of periods or aspects of their own lives. Materials play important roles in my artistic expression. I often use the contrast of stone and metal to amplify my themes. I find it refreshing to work in both stone and metal; this is because of the differences in their creative processes - reductive aspects of stone vs. fabrication of metal. I also enjoy the differences in creative development that derive from these materials.
