Artist Statement

Painting is my response to and appreciation for what I see around me.  I am attracted to subjects that exemplify the beauty of nature or that have interesting shapes, colors, or contrasts of light and shadow.  I strive to capture the essence of a subject in a painterly way.  As a graphic designer and illustrator I have spent my career designing for others.  Painting gives me the chance to create for myself.  From 2006 I began taking time away from commercial art and renewed my interest in fine arts.  I currently reside in Glenview Illinois and regularly paint both in the studio and on location, traveling to favorite spots in Michigan, California and Hawaii.
